Critical Analysis
I read a little bit of the book that I choose for my reading assignment. This book is named One Stick Song by Sherman Alexie, and contains several interesting poems. I actually like poems and wrote a few when I was younger of course now that I look at them I’m not quite sure what I was trying to say. Alexie writes several poems about very weird things that describe his life some way or another. I also noticed from the poems I glanced at that there were some issues with his father. I predict that this book will be very good novel and also show me some techniques on how to write myself. For almost every poem he provides details as to why the poem was written and what his inspirations were. In One Stick Song Alexie uses his literary elements such are how the food tastes and smell, how the wind felt. I like these elements personally I can take my reading to another level when I can picture what the writer is seeing or feeling. I enjoy the way he uses animals in his poetry as if they were telling the story for example in the poem “Crow Testament” Alexie states “When Crows fight Crows the sky fills with beaks and talons. Damn, says Crow, it’s raining feathers.” This book is filled with imagery, plots and third person points of views and would be a great book for those who enjoy in depth reading to stimulate the imagination.
